Gold Stone Workshop is a new film production company in Hong Kong. Its first production, anthology film 夜香・鴛鴦・深水埗 Memories to Choke On, Drinks to Wash Them Down, premiered internationally at Rotterdam 2020. The film received the Best Screenplay Award from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society in 2021, as well being shortlisted for Best Film and Best Director(s).
Memories was a popular as well as critical success. It had a successful commercial run in Hong Kong cinemas, with the number of screens more than doubling after the first week. Hong Kong audiences voted Memories one of their favorite movies, and Reilly and Leung one of their favorite directors/directing teams, in the 2021 Hong Kong Movie6 Awards. The film played in Hong Kong cinemas for more than half a year, one of the longest commercial runs in Hong Kong history. Now, the film is being distributed worldwide in cinemas, universities, and on various platforms.
Memories’ Chinese title begins with a romantic name for human excrement. Bittersweet stories of Hong Kong people contending with nostalgia and an uncertain future give way to a comical documentary assault on sentiment.
